Please pray...we have to have a miracle

2nd UPDATE: Luke has stayed strong this afternoon. I feel in my spirit that once again he is beating his odds. I can't describe the feeling I get every time I see his little arms and legs and the color they have turned...however, the doctor said that he thinks his color is getting a bit better.

Kristin and I have cried a lot and we have laughed a lot. When Kristin told me she posted the Caring Cards link yesterday, I immediately started to laugh. I went on to say that we will be billed for a new printer, toner, ink cartridge and paper. Each time the girls visit Luke's room with goodies, they bring a stack of Caring Cards...all we can do is laugh at their reactions to volume and then we cry as we read your wonderful words. Keep them coming folks, not to bring attention to any of my family, but to show what God has revealed to you through my son's life. In our deepest, darkest moments, we read your Caring Cards, emails, facebook posts and text messages and it provides the counseling we need to pull through.

We mentioned in an earlier blog that over a year ago we prayed for God to use us in extraordinary ways...sometimes the answer to prayer is scary. But, we know that God has used our boy's heart to touch the hearts of many people. Luke 1:37 is alive and spreading the news that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD.

UPDATE: After cardio rounds we found that Luke literally must have a miracle to survive. They are doing everything they can to help his little body try to recover. All his meds have been changed out and all the Heparin has been stopped. A new blood thinner is being issued; it is a medicine that is not used a whole lot from what we understand. The doctors are turning all support back on full flow and giving him 24 to 48 hours to pull out of this setback. It really is up to the Lord from this point on.

As you might have guessed, Kristin and I are very tore up this morning. We have not lost faith that God can heal our little boy fully and we are walking by faith and not by sight. Even though his body and his situation looks bad, we are resting on our faith.

So today as you pray, pray that God completely heals Luke. Pray that when the doctors visit his room the next time, the only thing they can say is, "It's a miracle!" But also, give God praise and glory for what He has done. We have experienced many miracles in the last week. God has revealed Himself in many ways and thousands of people have been touched. God has used our little guy as an evangelist. People are on their knees for the first time in a long time - maybe ever, restoration has taken place, lives have been changed, relationships restored, brokenness made whole, people have reevaluated their priorities and the greatest of all - people are coming to know Christ Jesus! In my family's darkest hour, God is moving - and we pray that He continues to move. He is worthy to be praised!

Thank God today for all the small things in your life. Kristin and I would give up everything we have in order for Luke to be healthy and wake us up screaming and crying in the middle of the night because he is hungry; it's the small things in life that really matter the most. We pray that God blesses each and every one of you today as you draw closer to Him.

Luke is having a bad morning. His body seems to not be tolerating the blood thinner, Heparin, right now. His little arms and legs are really purple and it is a scary sight. Please pray that as the doctors and nurses work to change his medication that his little body begins to react in a positive way.

  1. Kristin,

  3. We know that Luke is meant to be whole, complete, and perfect in this moment now. We know this in our deapest of thoughts and this should be part of our prayer. It is mine. Through this prayer God will heal him. In my prayers I have already thanked God for doing so, as I have full faith that it will be done. Sometimes things get a little worse before they get better. I haven't prayed this hard for something in years but I find myself praying for little Luke throughout the day. He is a beautiful baby and he has the power of prayer on his side.

I also pray for the doctors and nurses. I pray that God will work through their hands. I am 500+ miles away but when I pray I can see the spirit of God not only in the room with Luke, but inside of him as well.

I also pray for the two of you. I am a mother and cannot imagine being in your shoes. I cannot imagine the day-to-day of it all. You both seem to be so strong where, I am afraid, I would find myself weak. Just remember, it is important not to keep your emotions bottled up. Just because you express your frustration, hurt, anger, fear does not make you any less. It is important to get that all out so you do not carry it back into the room with Luke. So that, when you are with your little baby you can focus on him. You have to let all of those thoughts out and release them so that your deepest thought of KNOWING he will be healed can prevail.

I don't know either of you but went to school with Benson. I came to your blog through FB. I wasn't raised in the church and haven't been in years but I know the God that speaks within my soul. My God tells me not to worry about Luke being ok but to KNOW that he is going to be ok. This is the most powerful of prayers.

I will never forget little Luke's story....and I feel certin that his story will be a long one, one of healing.

Benson after 33 years as a doctor I have learned that we can do many things to keep a person alive and to try and heal them. But, in the end we are all on God's time and in His hands. We are praying for Luke and his family.

  6. Praying for Luke and for his mommy & daddy. Ephesians 3:20 tells us, "Jesus Christ is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than you can ask or imagine." Look at what He has already done for Luke and I feel that He has much more planned for him!
Love you all, Remona & Sid

  9. Sending a little Matt Redmond your way this morning little buddy... Let those breaths bring life and blood to the tips of your little toes and fingers!!

    Let everything that, everything that,
Everything that has breath praise the Lord.
    Let everything that, everything that,
Everything that has breath praise the Lord.

    VERSE 1:
    Praise You in the morning,
    Praise You in the evening,
Praise You when I'm young and when I'm old.
    Praise You when I'm laughing,
    Praise You when I'm grieving,
Praise You every season of the soul.
If we could see how much You're worth,
Your power, Your might, Your endless love,
Then surely we would never cease to praise.

    VERSE 2:
Praise You in the heavens, joining with the angels,
Praising You forever and a day.
Praise You on the earth now, joining with creation,
Calling all the nations to Your praise.
If they could see how much You're worth,
Your power, your might, your endless love,
Then surely they would never cease to praise.

  11. I pull from your strength and Im so sorry to hear what little Luke and your family is going through. I would like to say a prayer for Luke if that is ok.
Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give Your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend Your sick ones, O Lord Christ. Rest Your weary ones. Bless Your dying ones. Soothe Your suffering ones. Pity Your afflicted ones. Shield Your joyous ones. And all for Your love's sake. Amen

  12. I got up this morning and read your update that they had to discontinue Lukes Heparin. I set and prayed as hard as I could pray. You three have been an inspiration to so many and you have touched my life in ways you can't imagine. I get overwhelmed and lots of times I take things for granted. As a Mother, Luke has touched me so much, making me realize that a mother must never take things for granted and God deserves all the praise for having a child and it being healthy! I have no doubt in God and I know that he is going to bring your little miracle through this ordeal! Yours and Kristins strength and faith have been such an inspiration!! I set my little girl on my lap last night and as I read your update and Lukes pictures came up, My little girl leaned over and kissed his picture and said "pritty babbiiee" and it touched my heart. WE WILL BE PRAYING FOR LUKE AND HIS WONDERFUL, LOVING PARENTS!! May God bless you with peace and touch Luke with a wonderful cure. OUR GOD IS A WONDERFUL GOD!!

  13. Lukes story brings me to tears just about everytime I read it. Not sorrowful tears all the time but tears of redemption because of this incident bringing me closer to God. Tears of love for both you and Kristin. I am father and I know exactly what you are feeling.

I want to comment on what Rick and Terry Miles said above. He is exactly right. A doctor friend of mine once said that doctors can only treat the symptoms, God is the one who heals.

I pray that God continues to keep His hand upon you. I pray that God continues to be lifted up and exhalted above all things. I pray that God reaches down and touches Lukes little heart and recovers it. Maybe one of the doctors needs to know Christ. Father I pray that today would be that day.

  16. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

May God grant you the strength and peace you need during this time. May His Holy Spirit be with you and surround you with comfort. May His healing hands reach out to Luke and heal his little body so that he can live a life of glorifying and serving the one true God. His miracles are many and mighty and you can be sure that prayers for a miracle are being said on Luke's behalf. Even people who don't know you, such as myself, have been moved by this tiny little person, his strong faithful parents, and their story of hope. I came upon your blog through a friend on Facebook and have been praying for you since. I am a mother of two miracles, one of which has had a heart condition since he was a little boy--Dr. Arennsman was our doctor too--but I can only imagine what you are going through. I admire your strength, courage, and faith. God bless you all.

  17. I believe that I have prayed more in the last week then I have in a long time for one certain thing. Luke has blessed me in so many ways and he is only a week old. Luke has already witnessed to more people then most will in a lifetime. He is so strong and his parents are amazing people! The Sexton 3 are on my mind ALL the time. I thank you so much for allowing me to be blessed through your story.
"God bless Luke even more today. Place both hands upon his body and breath healing into him. Continue to give Kristin and Benson strength to face another hour and faith to believe that you are the great Healer!"

  42. My husband and I are pastors and also have a miracle-in-progress daughter. When the doctors said she would not live past 2 years old we kept our eyes on the Great Physician and Healer. She just turned 16. PTL!! Jesus already paid the price!! It was a high and horrible price but He did it for us. The doctors can help and certainly want to help. We appreciate them. But when they've done all they can...God is still able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or even think!!! We have healing scriptures on CD, sermons about healing on CD, testimonies of healings on CD/DVD/books, healing scripture books (to read over Luke), etc. All these will help build & sustain your faith. We've spent many hours in KCH. We understand where you are in nearly every way. If we can bring you any of the above mentioned resources, please let us know. If you need folks to be there in person, we would gladly come. We understand that you may have all this already in place but just in case you don't, we wanted to make the offer. We stand in agreement with you for a miracle for Luke in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ!

I have seen God truly work miracles with sick people and nothing else can explain it. We serve an awesome and mighty GOD. I immediately prayed for you and your family after I read this. We have been reading the updates daily on little Luke and have been praying for his full recovery and strength for you and your husband. Nothing is impossible with God and nothing is a surprise to him. All of Luke's condition and changes are part of his plan and he is completing the outcome. I have full faith that Luke can and will be healed. Keep your faith strong and lean on each other through this difficult time. You are loved by so many people that you barely know, and obviously by this blog, many people that you know well. Love and prayers to you and yours,
